Although reared among Christian people and taught to reverence the Bible, I felt that it was written in code and symbol and not understandable. However, I was sure that some day someone would bring to light a key which would reveal its hidden meaning. In this hope I read with interest reports of the activities of the archaeologists, and felt that they would discover what was needed. From the moment I began reading Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, I realized that I held in my hand the key for which I had hoped —not hieroglyphs from ancient times, but a living, vital revelation in accordance with Bible prophecy, available not merely to a favored few, but to all who would read and understand.
I shall always be grateful that I learned of this Science before my marriage, for it better equipped me to meet the problems presented by a home and family. Before the birth of our first child I had some fear because previously a near relative had passed on under the same circumstances as mine. It was a great comfort to cling to the Bible promise, "I the Lord thy God will hold thy right hand, saying unto thee, Fear not; I will help thee." My health was excellent, and the birth harmonious. The birth of our second child was painless.
For over thirty-five years I have used no material help for myself, nor have I recommended it for my family. Only three of the diseases which so often become a part of childhood experience appeared, and these were quickly healed. Our daughter, when a young child, developed hernia, but this disappeared through our own understanding of Christian Science. Many other healings have followed, some taking time; but Christian Science has never failed. With the help of a practitioner appendicitis, chronic bronchitis, and influenza all vanished. Hemorrhage, grippe, and an unsightly growth on my wrist, which a physican had said could never be removed except by surgery, disappeared instantaneously. Whenever the way has seemed dark, there has always been a faithful practitioner at hand whose clear thinking and wise counsel have brought the light.
