Because Christian Science has come to this age, and "the 'still, small voice' of scientific thought reaches over continent and ocean to the globe's remotest bound" (Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, p. 559), I am grateful. For all the activities of the Christian Science movement, for metaphysical work done by Christian Scientists all over the world in anticipation of a just peace in the present conflict, for brave men and women in the service, my gratitude is unbounded.
When, as an infant, I was healed instantaneously of a condition from which the attending physician said I was dying, my mother became an earnest student of Christian Science, and she has continued her study ever since. The practitioner had been called for me at the recommendation of my mother's sister, who had been healed of tuberculosis of the lungs in its last stages by reading the Christian Science textbook.
In early childhood I was taught to rely on my own efforts for healing, for which I am most grateful, and through that effort I have witnessed many proofs of the presence of Truth where error seemed to be holding sway. Among these were the overcoming of the pain of yellow jacket stings when I was a child of six; the disappearing of a bunion; the quick healing of a sore throat; complete healing in one night of influenza; protection during a tornado that demolished our house; and proof of supply where lack seemed to be, this supply being evidenced more often in wise use of money rather than increased amounts.
