The many blessings that Christian Science has brought into my life fill my heart with gratitude, and I wish to express my appreciation for the help, support, and comfort which Christian Science has given me during the past year.
After our son, a Marine, had been listed as missing for nearly a year, we received news that he was alive and a prisoner in the Philippine Islands. We were told that we could communicate with him through the Japanese Red Cross, with the privilege of sending one cable. We sent the cable and wrote a letter each week. Six weeks later we received another wire which seemed a tragic blow to us. It stated that he had passed away in the prison camp and there were no details available. We had received no word from our son at all.
Previously I had agreed to serve as substitute Second Reader on the following Sunday. When the wire came, however, I felt I could not serve. A practitioner friend assured me that God had already done the work, and that it was my part to get a false sense of self out of the way. We were also advised to tell no one until after the Sunday services. Through the help received, I was able to be at my post of duty.
