DOING SOMETHING ABOUT IT

From the July 1944 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Christian Science requires that those espousing this religion shall do something constructive about whatever engages their attention. There should never be any occasion for doubt or confusion regarding what they are to do, for this Science has revealed to them that everything unlike divine good is forever barred from the true consciousness of man, which is the reflection of perfect and holy Mind. Christian Science has also made clear to them that every thought and act which is free from materiality is of divine origin and therefore heals. Whatever measure of divine Truth is spiritually seen can have but one effect, and that is to rebuke and reduce to nothingness stolid corporeal sense, thus giving a chance for the man God created to be expressed.

The Bible says, "Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God;" and this is precisely what Christian Scientists do, understanding that the word "spirit" in this Biblical citation refers to the thoughts which present themselves. In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 52) Mary Baker Eddy writes: "The 'man of sorrows' best understood the nothingness of material life and intelligence and the mighty actuality of all-inclusive God, good. These were the two cardinal points of Mind-healing, or Christian Science, which armed him with Love."

Armed with correct understanding of the real fundamentals of Christ's Christianity, and freer than ever before from the stultifying effects of materiality, the Christian Scientist of today goes forth to achieve by spiritual demonstration whatever is properly his to do. There can be no human situation, condition, or environment where the power and presence of God cannot be made known. Ever alert, ever ready, momentarily, hourly, and daily, the consecrated Christian Scientist is prepared to work constructively on the side of God, thus establishing his own mental atmosphere. He asks no recess from duty, no relaxation from spiritual effort, no avoidance of responsibility, no procrastination. A true student of Christian Science will do something about every challenge of material sense, and he will do it promptly and endeavor to prove his immediate, constant immunity from evil.
