I came into Christian Science seeking spiritual enlightenment, for in the orthodox church in which I was brought up I could not find the answers to many of the questions which troubled me. Although I was told to accept the Bible literally, I could not reconcile what I read with what I had been taught and with my reason. Through the study of the writings of Mary Baker Eddy these puzzling questions have been answered. In Science and Health she gives as one of the Tenets of The Mother Church (p. 497), "As adherents of Truth, we take the inspired Word of the Bible as our sufficient guide to eternal Life." I have come to see that the Bible, when scientifically interpreted, is "our sufficient guide to eternal Life."
A study of the definition of man (ibid., pp. 475-477) freed me ten years ago from a painful bodily condition which had bound me for many years. In our family we have been healed, through the faithful application of what we knew of the truth, of blistered heels, fever, sprained ankles, headaches, an abscessed tooth, hay fever, and many other physical difficulties, as well as other discordant conditions. Some of these healings were instantaneous, others took time, but when they were slow, the needed lessons of patience and humility were learned. These demonstrations have convinced us that all of our needs will be met when Christian Science is properly applied.
When my son entered the armed forces he expressed the thought that he held no resentment or bitterness toward any race. In "Mother's Evening Prayer" (Poems, p. 4) came to me and I have had no sense of separation since.
