Though many times I have expressed gratitude verbally for having found Christian Science over twenty years ago, I have been lax in writing my testimony, and I hope I may make some amends by this testimony.
Christian Science is indeed the pearl of great price in our family, for through its teachings physical, mental, and financial problems have been solved as we have relied faithfully, consistently, and radically on Truth.
When I was a young mother, a copy of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, was lent to me by a neighbor. At that time I was suffering from nervous indigestion and had grown weak and extremely thin. Through reading the chapter on Prayer I was so much helped that great improvement was manifested. A few months later, when I was ill in bed with an abscessed throat, I called for a Christian Science practitioner. We had had medical help in the home for our two small sons, and the physician was then attending me. I did not understand that Christian Science practitioners do not work with physicians, but the kind woman who was called explained this to me and, noticing the textbook beside my bed, she advised me to read as much as I was able. I did this, and a great mental peace came over me that night; but it was not until the second night that I threw away my medicine. After a battle with pain, but feeling the ever-presence of God as I never had before, I fell asleep, and in the morning awoke to the realization that I was free.
