Poems

"Unto us a son"

From the December 1947 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Unto the world, the world they knew,
Jesus the Christ was born.
Shepherds were glad, the Wisemen too,
To see the promised morn.

Evil, as Herod, still would stay
The coming of the light;
The great red dragon still would slay
The Christly rule of right.

But to the world, the world anew,
A sacred child is born:
Wakeful of earth and wisemen too
Welcome again this morn.

And earth shall help the woman now
And swallow up the flood
The dragon casts out of his mouth
T o drown the voice of good.

So, in the heart of you and me,
The Christ, Truth, may appear;
Watchfulness, wisdom, let there be
To make the vision clear.
