Testimonies of Healing

In 1918 my testimony was published in...

From the August 1948 issue of The Christian Science Journal

In 1918 my testimony was published in the Journal. It told of my healing, through Christian Science, of cancer after I had endured two operations and the doctor had declared that a third one was necessary. I am very grateful to state here that that healing has been permanent. Since then we have had many healings in our family, among them those of malaria, colds, goiter, influenza, sprains, and sick headaches.

One experience made a deep impression on me and was proof that Christian Science does heal instantaneously. I had suffered all day from a boil in one nostril. My face was swollen and painful; and though I had worked faithfully, as we are taught to do in Science, I did not receive any relief until the evening mail was brought in. A slender roll was handed to me, and on opening it I found it to be a small-town paper containing a reprint of a Christian Science lecture, which had been sent to me by an acquaintance. I sat down and read it slowly and prayerfully, and when I came to the end, there was not the slightest evidence of a boil. I was very grateful for this instantaneous healing. The remembrance of it has remained with me through many years.

Once while staying in a rented room in a city, I promised the landlady to answer the telephone for her while she was out. When it began to ring insistently, I started down the stairs. I missed a step and fell to the bottom of sixteen steps, landing with my head on the bottom step. I lay still for a moment to straighten out my thinking and then rose and walked back upstairs to my room. I was knowing God's presence all the time, and I picked up Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy and lay down and read for a while. An hour later, while bathing and dressing for dinner, I noticed that one arm was black from shoulder to wrist. I put on a long-sleeved blouse and went to a restaurant for dinner. In a short time I was free from pain, and in two days I was again normal.
