All that I have of any worth I owe to Christian Science: better health, a better financial position, and a better sense of home. I have had many physical healings, though I did not seek to be healed. All my life I had been seeking for a God I could love and know, a God at hand and not one who was up in the sky, as I had been taught from childhood.
When the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, was lent to me, I read no farther than that first wonderful chapter on Prayer before I knew that I had indeed found the pearl of great price. I had been suffering for weeks from ulcers in my mouth, and had tried many remedies without success. Using none of my various remedies, I went to bed. In the early hours of the morning I awoke with a most wondrous feeling of joy and these words ringing in my ears (Matt. 9:22): "Thy faith hath made thee whole." I repeated them aloud, wondering at the joyous feeling, and then I discovered that not a trace of an ulcer was in my mouth, and all pain and discomfort had gone. I was healed.
At that time I was undergoing massage and electrical treatment for my back, which I had hurt in helping to move a heavy case. I suffered great pain and was unable to dress myself without assistance. I was about to go to the telephone to arrange for another treatment when, as if someone had spoken, came the words, "How long halt ye between two opinions?" (I Kings 18:21.) I stood still, so arresting was the question. Again came the message, "Ye cannot serve God and mammon" (Matt. 6:24). I went to the telephone, but almost to my own amazement I found myself asking for my account and saying, "I do not feel that I need any further treatment." God was certainly guiding me. I dressed myself the next morning and went to work as usual and did not realize until I knew more of Christian Science that I had again been healed instantaneously.
