CHRISTIAN SCIENCE: defines God by the use of seven synonymous terms— Life, Truth, Love, Soul, Spirit, Mind, Principle. The Christian Science definition of God does not trespass upon the oneness of Deity. These terms are used interchangeably, and each includes the oneness, wholeness, and allness of God, good.
Mary Baker Eddy writes in "Retrospection and Introspection" (pp. 60, 61): "Christian Science declares that there is but one Truth, Life, Love, but one Spirit, Mind, Soul. Any attempt to divide these arises from the fallibility of sense, from mortal man's ignorance, from enmity to God and divine Science." It is not possible to divide that which is eternally and fundamentally one. Therefore any attempt to do so ignorantly or otherwise would result in a disastrous loss of understanding and a failure to prove the presence and power of God.
Christian Science emphasizes the necessity of strict obedience to the First Commandment. Mrs. Eddy writes (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 340), "The First Commandment is my favorite text." She continues, "One infinite God, good, unifies men and nations; constitutes the brotherhood of man; ends wars; fulfils the Scripture, 'Love thy neighbor as thyself;' annihilates pagan and Christian idolatry,—whatever is wrong in social, civil, criminal, political, and religious codes; equalizes the sexes; annuls the curse on man, and leaves nothing that can sin, suffer, be punished or destroyed." A study of these statements reveals the fact that the brotherhood of man will be brought to light by the understanding of the one God, good.
