THE Word of God declaring the presence of the Christ, Truth, with men has been revealed to the receptive heart in all ages. This Word is eternal, for it is God's message showing forth the eternal covenant of God with man which, the Bible declares, "liveth and abideth for ever." Whenever the humble thought has been uplifted in sincere desire to know and do the will of our heavenly Father, the message has been heard.
The Word came to Moses on Mount Sinai in the form of the Ten Commandments, that mighty code of moral law for all generations. It was revealed by Jesus in his glorious Sermon on the Mount, giving his listeners the foundation of Christian conduct and discipline. It unfolded to Mary Baker Eddy in the inspired and healing precepts which she wrote in the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures"—the book which is destined to free all mankind from the bondage of unreal material sense.
Moses accepted his great commission of leadership after receiving the second or latter sign, the healing of leprosy. Jesus proved his Messiahship by healings following his inspiring sermon; and our Leader recognized the presence of the divine Word in her consciousness and was healed, and healed others. Healing through spiritual illumination is a sign of God's omnipotence and omnipresence today as in past ages. The centurion who came to Jesus for help for his servant said (Matt. 8:8), "Speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed." He did not expect Jesus to speak some magic phrase or incantation; rather did he expect a vitalizing, life-restoring message from one accustomed to using authority. He recognized the divine authority in the Word which Jesus would speak.
