BECAUSE of his sure sense that God, all-powerful good, is the Father of man and the universe, and that the reflection, the emanation, of this perfection must be perfect, Christ Jesus could say to his followers (John 14:27): "Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid." He knew that because God creates all things good, peace forever prevails. He understood that because the divine Principle of creation never changes, divine law maintains peace eternally. That this peace is not more in evidence today is not because of its absence in Truth. It is because self-will, self-seeking, and self-opinionated thinking are hiding from view the true status of man and his eternal heritage of peace and power. But the gift of peace is for all to understand and enjoy, and this understanding is possible today because of the revelation of Truth to Mary Baker Eddy. To her it was revealed that the peace promised by Jesus is natural to man in God's likeness, even as are ability, intelligence, abundance, freedom, joy, health, and other graces of Spirit.
God's first command as given in the true record of creation is (Gen. 1:3), "Let there be light." The chapter ends with the statement that all that God saw was good. Mrs. Eddy's spiritual understanding of God and man enabled her to see that the evil seeming in the world is illusion and that enlightenment dispels it. In her book "Miscellaneous Writings" she says (p. 154), "It is the purpose of divine Love to resurrect the understanding, and the kingdom of God, the reign of harmony already within us." And in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" she says (p. 3), "The rule is already established, and it is our task to work out the solution."
