What has been done for me by a correct concept of God as revealed through Christian Science can best be described in the words of the fortieth Psalm: "He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings. And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God."
During my last year in high school I was suddenly taken ill and was left in such extreme weakness that I could eat little or walk little for many weeks. My parents took me to two physicians, both of whom, after unsuccessful treatment, finally said that it was an extreme nervous disorder, for which they could find no cause. There followed more than a year of terrible depression, weakness, and fear. To others my fears were groundless, and even I could not understand them; neither could I find release from them.
Having had strict Sunday School training in an orthodox church, I had been taught to pray, and so I turned to God, begging for health. I found encouragement in reading and rereading from Matthew (7:7), "Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you." From this promise I felt confident that I should find health and the understanding of life which I so desperately needed.
