Poems

Present Reward

From the October 1950 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Now are there days when earthly shadows lighten,
When holy promise yields to present good,
As glorious glimpses came to olden prophets
At Bethel and on mount where Moses stood.

Now are there hours when nearer draws the city
Where no lie enters and where nought defiles.
A foretaste of its perfect joys is sweeter
Than song of birds or flowers in tropic isles.

Now there are moments when the All of Spirit
Is known, destroying pain, assuaging grief;
When suddenly Mind's holiness enfolds me
In joyous realization's blest relief.

Spirit imbibed through study of the letter,
Which to this age, by one inspired, was given,
Presents with growing clarity the vision
Of ever-present, everlasting heaven.
