One of the first lessons one learns in turning to Christian Science is how to rely upon God, divine Mind, the one and only Physician, who heals all sorrow, despair, helplessness, sin, and disease. This Science helps us to understand that harmony is real and discord unreal. It supplies the understanding of God's loving care and protection for all His children at all times.
In working out any problem in human experience, we need to increase our faith in God, whom Mary Baker Eddy reveals as Mind, Spirit, Soul, Principle, Life, Truth, and Love. Indeed, a healing faith comes through our understanding and acknowledging God's allness and man's reflection of his creator. Mrs. Eddy, pointing to the ideal faith, writes in "The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany" (p. 118): "A saving faith comes not of a person, but of Truth's presence and power. Soul, not sense, receives and gives it."
Our deliverance from error, then, comes as we turn away from sense to Soul and trust in God's presence and power to sustain us. A faith-lighted thought which turns away from finite personality to infinite Principle, to divine Love, to supply its every need, is that living faith which demonstrates the unlimited power of infinite good. This pure, uplifting faith is steadfast and unwavering; it is constant, grateful, loving, and strong. It soars above the spurious sense of a limited mortal with a material body, subject to the illusions of sin, sickness, or death, up to the truth of the imperishable man of God's creating.
