For many years I have gleaned and accepted the good from the articles and testimonies in the Christian Science periodicals, to which I am greatly indebted. Christian Science first came into my life when I was a small child, but through the events of the years it became lost to me, although the seed was sown through this brief contact.
A few years ago Christian Science healed me of a serious infection following the birth of my second child. My concern over my illness and the knowledge that I was alone, with two children dependent upon me for care, filled me with fear. The physician who had attended me, and the only one in that area, was away on vacation. I decided that I should take my stand for Christian Science. I picked up my textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and as I turned through the pages, my eyes fell upon the following passage (p. 495): "When the illusion of sickness or sin tempts you, cling steadfastly to God and His idea." On the fourth day of my illness a relative came to see me, and through her help I secured the services of a practitioner. The rest of that week I worked to learn more of God and of man, His idea. Needless to say, I was healed of the infection and fear of the future.
Previous to this experience my two-year-old son had a swelling on his jaw which had not yielded to medical aid. Three physicians could not diagnose the condition and after repeated lancings gave up the case. The child was healed in Christian Science at the same time I was healed of the infection. This child also had a wonderful healing of crooked teeth. The other child was healed of scarlet fever in three days.
