My heart is filled with gratitude for Mary Baker Eddy's unremitting labor in establishing the Christian Science movement that everyone may understand and use the scientific law of healing which Jesus taught and practiced.
While reading the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, I was healed of an internal trouble for which I had had much medical treatment, including a major operation, with very little relief. I was not seeking healing for myself, but hoped to find something that would help our little son, who had been left very delicate after a virulent attack of scarlet fever. I started to read one evening and continued through the night. Although I did not then understand that Christian Science is the Comforter promised by the Master, I felt that it was a message from God, and I cannot describe the joy that flooded my consciousness when I realized that God, good, is the only cause and creator, and therefore that sickness must be unreal.
Mrs. Eddy says on page 14 of the textbook: "Become conscious for a single moment that Life and intelligence are purely spiritual,—neither in nor of matter,—and the body will then utter no complaints. If suffering from a belief in sickness, you will find yourself suddenly well." This was proved in my experience, for I got up that morning completely healed. I did not put on the surgical belt upon which I had depended for more than ten years, and straightway I started to lead a normal, active life.
