During the first years of World War II we had a sick child. He had been in bed nearly all one winter, and although he was under the care of an eminent specialist, his condition was growing worse. The illness was asthma. By early spring all looked hopeless. My husband and I were worn and weary from distressing nights. My own doctor advised me to get away for a while.
It was then that some friends with whom we never correspond wrote us from Florida, telling of accommodations there. In a week's time we had the necessary papers, and my husband and I started for Florida. We traveled by bus, stopping off each night. Although it was wartime, we always found a comfortable place to stay. My husband and I feel that this trip was divinely governed.
The woman who managed the apartment house to which our friends took us was outstanding. Efficient and kindly, she was very Christlike. When we learned that she was a Christian Scientist, we knew that Christian Science was worth inquiring into. I asked her for literature on the subject, and my husband and I attended church and visited the Reading Room. The attendant at the Reading Room was another example of fine womanhood. We decided to try Christian Science on our arrival home.
