Rich in spirit as in truth and healing efficacy are the instructions of our courageous Leader, Mary Baker Eddy. She always remembered the needy, while making provision for sharing the blessings of the Christ Science with her followers and others. Through the distribution and circulation of the authorized literature she has opened a door leading to spiritual understanding and healing which no one can close.
Christian Scientists are ever ready to extend grateful tribute to the earliest workers in our movement, because they realize that such as these were preparing the way for the current and apparently more expansive methods of work. Mrs. Eddy knew, and we know, that some measure of self-sacrifice attends the order of Science. But such is the fruitage of unselfed love and tender consideration of others that what may have appeared as self-sacrifice becomes an exceptional blessing. While Science reveals a need for self-discipline on the part of the human being, yet the resultant effect is good indeed.
To those who catch the vision of our Leader's love for all mankind, and who would learn, as her followers learn, both to gather and to sow—to those must come a rich harvest of good and a substantial part in the benediction addressed by Christ Jesus to the disciples whom he had sent out to do healing work. He said (Luke 10: 19, 20): "Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you. Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven."
