WHERE IS YOUR STRENGTH?

From the August 1950 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The basis of being is Spirit, not matter. The basis of pure intelligence is Mind, not brain. No soul or mind exists in matter, for Soul is God, and man is God's expression. We are mindful of these facts because Mind, God, makes us mindful of them, and not because we learn of them by means of erudition.

Christian Science discloses infinite possibilities because man in God's likeness is endowed with infinite power and ability, and Christian Science reveals the way to reflect this divine power and to utilize the divine abilities. Possibilities become probabilities and probabilities are exchanged for certainties as the Science of Mind, or Christian Science, is understood. There is no withdrawal of God's power; therefore it is impossible to believe there is an ebb and flow of spiritual strength. The strength derived from Spirit is not dependent on mortal mind or material forces. Muscles do not give strength. It is foolish to look for strength where it does not really exist. The Bible says (Ps. 27:1), "The Lord is the strength of my life."

Nature often illustrates the fact that strength is not in matter. For instance, the migrant insect, following well-defined routes across continent and ocean, has no guidebook to consult, but in a degree it manifests Mind and is aware of its direction more certainly than a mortal who believes he has a brain or mind of his own in matter by means of which he plans his itinerary. Moreover, the insect is given the strength to accomplish the journey.
