Testimonies of Healing

Like most Christian Scientists, I have...

From the March 1951 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Like most Christian Scientists, I have derived great benefit from reading the testimonies in the Journal and the Christian Science Sentinel, and the time is long overdue for me to express in writing my gratitude for the many blessings I have received through Science.

Over fifteen years ago, whilst serving in the Royal Navy, I received many letters from my parents telling me of a wonderful religion which healed the sick. As I was considered a very fit person, I was not particularly interested, but was glad my parents were happy in this religion.

Some years later, when I retired from the Navy, I went to a Christian Science service, mostly to please my parents. I was greatly impressed with the service, and more so by the people. They seemed different from the type of churchgoer I knew. I felt that they were more kindly, more sincere, and I noticed that they were in no hurry to leave after the service. I decided that it was the best religion I knew of, and I was willing to accept it as such, but I was reluctant to believe the healings claimed by its followers. About twelve months later I began to get worried about employment, as there did not seem any prospect whatever of obtaining work. My mother recommended that I give Christian Science a trial, and although at first I would not agree, I did eventually pay a visit to a practitioner. How grateful I am for that visit! The practitioner's explanation of my true employment was a revelation, so logical was it.
