Paul said to the Corinthians (I Cor. 2:1, 4): "And I, brethren, when I came to you, came not with excellency of speech or of wisdom, declaring unto you the testimony of God. ... And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power."
When I was a young girl in high school, I picked up a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy in the home of a friend and read a page of it. It left an impression on my thought that was never erased. A few years later, while I was away at school, a friend fell in the gymnasium, where we were playing games, and injured her back. Several days later she announced that her back was all right again. She said that she had telegraphed to a Christian Science practitioner for help and was healed. This was my introduction to the healing power of Christian Science, and I was very much impressed.
However, it was not until a few years later, after I had married, that I was ready to accept this Science. I attended my first Wednesday evening testimony meeting and was impressed, saying to myself, "Here at last is sincerity." On returning home I announced to my husband that I wanted to read Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. He made no objection, and while I was reading I experienced a healing of an organic trouble. That healing has proved to be permanent. From the beginning I loved Mrs. Eddy's courage and her faith in what had been revealed to her, and when I could not grasp the meaning of some of her statements, I assured myself with this thought: I do not understand now, but I shall.
