When I was a very young student of Christian Science, I was attacked by venereal disease. At first I felt a terrific sense of shock and was embarrassed to think that I, a student of Christian Science, should experience such a disease. Then I began to see how unjust this attack was, since no moral offense had been committed, and I soon realized that it was only a false law of contagion operating in my thought, and not the will of God, since all disease is devoid of divine authority and contrary to His nature. This gave me courage to take my stand for the purity of man, his uprightness and freedom from disease, as the child of God. As I stood fast in these spiritual facts, the disease disappeared within one week. However, I did not handle the medical law of recurrence and the condition reappeared the next year, but by that time I had gained a better understanding of Science, and within a very few days the condition disappeared. This healing took place some thirteen years ago and has been permanent.
How can one ever have any doubt of the ever-presence of God and of the absolute purity of man? Mrs. Eddy states in Science and Health (p. 241), "The baptism of Spirit, washing the body of all the impurities of flesh, signifies that the pure in heart see God and are approaching spiritual Life and its demonstration."
For membership in The Mother Church and in a branch church, for class instruction from a consecrated teacher of Christian Science, for the privilege of participating in church work, and for the opportunity of rearing our children in Christian Science, I am indeed grateful.—New Orleans, Louisiana.
