At the turn of the century Christian Science was introduced into our family through the quick healing of my mother of a severe nervous breakdown after medical treatment had failed her. As a last resort she turned for help to a dear friend and neighbor who was a Christian Science practitioner, and improvement in her condition was evident from the start.
Although but a lad at the time, I was aware that something very important had come into our home, so complete was my mother's restoration to health and normal activities. I accompanied her to the Christian Science church in our community and soon was enrolled in its Sunday School. I look back upon my Sunday School experience as one of the greatest blessings of my life. During my attendance at college I had the privilege of class instruction from an alert, loving, and consecrated student of Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science.
Several years ago I seemed to be breaking under the aggressive onslaughts of the carnal mind, and I am grateful beyond words for the loyal Christian Scientists who stood by me until I emerged from the belief of awful darkness and confusion into the light of spiritual understanding and regained my assurance of the all-presence and all-power of God, good. In the proportion that I have faithfully and honestly applied the teachings of Christian Science, God's ever-available and unfailing law of adjustment has been proved adequate, no matter how severe or unsolvable have seemed the situations into which I was plunged through momentary lack of alertness and mistakes in judgment. There have been physical healings, some instantaneous and others rather slow; business problems have been solved; and divine guidance has been in evidence on occasions when of myself I should not have known which way to turn.
