As we go the round of daily affairs we are often tempted to believe that if certain individuals or circumstances were different, all would be well. But this is not so. All that ever needs changing is our false concept of a person, a situation, or condition, to bring a fuller expression of joy, freedom, and right activity into our lives. Christian Science has come to this age to teach us how to change our thinking from that which is material and unhappy to that which is purely spiritual and harmonious. It teaches mankind how to gain the freedom and harmony for which humanity longs.
Christian Science reveals the great truth that God is the one infinite All; that He is Life, Truth, Love, Mind, Principle, Spirit, and Soul. Christian Science also reveals and demonstrates that man is made in the image and likeness of the one God and that this image and likeness expresses only that which is loving, beloved, and lovable, that which is living, harmonious, and eternal, that which is perfect and complete.
The false concept of man as loveless, ill, incomplete, or imperfect must be laid aside for the spiritual concept of man as God's expression of Himself, beloved and whole, lacking nothing. The mortal picture may argue that some individual has a difficult temper, or a member of one's family is very ill, or even that one is loveless and alone. Concerning such lying suggestions our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, writes in "The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany" (p.128), "Watch, and pray daily that evil suggestions, in whatever guise, take no root in your thought nor bear fruit." Watch—what a challenge to each and every one of us to be ever on guard, to be ever awake to behold and maintain the reality of being—one perfect God, one Life, one Love, and man the perfect expression and reflection of God's being.
