When the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, was placed in my hands by a loving student, I was almost at the end of my human endurance. It was indeed a "cup of cold water" (Matt. 10:42). The good effects of my reading this book were immediate, for I gained a more hopeful outlook. I was at once healed of the smoking habit, and the use of intoxicants was soon abandoned.
I had many things which I wanted Christian Science to do for me, but I soon learned that what I needed was a greater understanding of God. Although the way has not always seemed easy, it is proving a grand adventure Spiritward.
My immediate mental attitude was so improved that I was able to apply myself to my chosen occupation as never before; and when I decided that Christian Science should take first place in my life, I began to have a fuller and more joyous life. Nothing in my experience has given me a greater sense of satisfaction than branch church activity.
