In deep gratitude for having proved in some measure "the peace of God, which passeth all understanding" (Phil. 4:7), I submit this testimony. When Christian Science was presented to me, I was in a state of much confusion and mental strain because of my living in an unhappy environment. Through the love expressed to me by a dear friend who is a Christian Scientist, I accepted this religion wholeheartedly.
After two years of faithful study, I was lifted out of the unhappy conditions into a harmonious and peaceful home, and I was able to give expression to my gratitude in church membership and loving service to our beloved Cause.
Soon after having the beautiful experience of class instruction I was called upon to prove in a greater degree the power of Christian Science healing. I was stricken with a poisoned condition of the head and face which, among other alarming symptoms, claimed to have taken away my sight. Although seemingly passing "through the valley of the shadow of death" (Ps. 23:4), I never lost the sense of the presence of divine Love. Words could never express my gratitude for the fine work of the practitioner who so lovingly gave me absent treatment. I was greatly helped by a passage from "Miscellaneous Writings" by Mary Baker Eddy (p. 277): "No evidence before the material senses can close my eyes to the scientific proof that God, good, is supreme. Though clouds are round about Him, the divine justice and judgment are enthroned." The healing came when I gained an inspired understanding of the words of our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, in her poem "Christ and Christmas" (p. 47),
