When Christian Science was presented to me, I was under the care of three doctors for a skin disease. After spending two weeks in a hospital I was taken to a boardinghouse, where a kind gentleman asked me if I would care to try Christian Science. Until then I had never heard of this religion, but I investigated it and began attending the Sunday morning services and Wednesday evening testimony meetings in a Church of Christ, Scientist, and I also went to Christian Science lectures. I spent much time in a Christian Science Reading Room and read the Lesson-Sermons in the Christian Science Quarterly and also read the periodicals. However, I still continued to receive medical treatment. Then one day the doctor asked me to go home and prepare for an operation, which was to he performed in a week's time.
Although I knew little of the Bible, I clung to certain passages I did know and also to "the scientific statement of being" (Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, p. 468). When I returned to the doctor a week later, he said, "We are not going to operate, but are going to try something new." This pronouncement awakened me, and I am grateful to say that I did not go back to see what the doctors were going to try. Instead, I called a Christian Science practitioner and was given my first treatment in Science. I took all the medicine I had and threw it away. I was healed of the hemorrhoids and also of a skin disease of twenty-five years' standing. Since that time I have had many other healings.
I am very grateful to God for Christian Science, which is bringing joy and happiness to mankind.— Manchester, Missouri.
