With a deep sense of love and gratitude...

From the August 1952 issue of The Christian Science Journal

With a deep sense of love and gratitude I should like to relate some of the many blessings and healings that have come to me through the teachings of Christian Science. Everything that I have I owe to the study and application of the truths given in the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy.

One of the first healings I experienced was the instantaneous elimination of a desire to continue smoking. This healing came through the help of a consecrated practitioner several years ago. Some of the other healings I have experienced include those of pulmonary tuberculosis, athlete's foot, and much selfishness and criticism.

A strong desire for alcohol was completely overcome through the realization of the truth contained in Mrs. Eddy's statement on page 393 of Science and Health: "Rise in the strength of Spirit to resist all that is unlike good. God has made man capable of this, and nothing can vitiate the ability and power divinely bestowed on man." While en route to a distant city to attend a business and social meeting I earnestly prayed for guidance and help to overcome the temptations that I knew were awaiting me. Upon my arrival I took my stand for Christian Science and met the temptations with silent declarations of truth, particularly the one just quoted. Then I went to my room, where I spent quite some time reading and pondering the truths that had given me the strength to resist temptation. I knew then that I was healed.
