CONCERNING DISEASE AND REGENERATION

From the August 1952 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Recently the writer came across statistics which indicate that communicative diseases have greatly diminished in recent years but that degenerative diseases, such as arthritis, heart disease, and so on, have increased.

From the standpoint of Christian Science, which teaches that God is good and infinite and that all that He creates is also good, disease has no scientific foundation, but is simply an erroneous belief, a misconception of mortal mind. Therefore disease must become less prevalent in the world in proportion as the truth of God is more widely understood and practiced. It is not too much to expect that, at some not too distant future, disease as such will become obsolete.

The mission of Christian Science is twofold. It not only heals disease, financial difficulties, family problems, but it also necessarily heals sin. In fact, the healing of sin is the primary function of this Science, and the signs and wonders exhibited in the overcoming of discord are waymarks which indicate the power of the Christ to master all evil and to demonstrate the supremacy, yea, the allness, of Spirit and its manifestation. It should not be thought strange that disease is more easily and quickly eradicated than sin. There is no belief of pleasure in disease, and therefore people generally are anxious to part with it. No one hankers after sickness! But who is willing to cease sinning as long as he believes that it is pleasureful?
