A long-delayed expression of my gratitude for blessings received through the study and application of Christian Science is offered here with the hope that it will help others as I have been helped. Several years' attendance in the Sunday School, where I learned to love and revere our precious Leader, Mrs. Eddy, gave me the proper incentive for further study and application of her teachings. By the use of "the scientific statement of being" (Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, p. 468) I was instantaneously healed, soon after I had completed Sunday School, of a burn resulting from removing a hot cover from a baking dish.
The following experience was to me outstanding. I had been reading "Mary Baker Eddy: A Life Size Portrait" by Lyman P. Powell and had been deeply impressed by the following story of an occurrence in our Leader's home. One day she drew several members of her household together and asked each one this question: "Can a Christian Scientist control the weather?" Their replies being incorrect, she firmly answered the question herself: "They can't and they don't. They can't, but God can and does. . . . A Christian Scientist . . . does know, and must know, that God governs the weather and no other influence can be brought to bear upon it."
One Sunday morning I took a guest to church. After the service we noticed that the sky was overcast with heavy rain clouds. As we were boarding the streetcar for our return trip it started raining, and very shortly the rain came down in torrents. The responsibility for returning with my guest without harm to her clothing occurred to me. The story just related came to my thought, and I began at once to declare silently that God controls the weather and that in the atmosphere of Love His ideas are always protected.
