As a young girl of fourteen years I began to doubt the teachings of the church I then attended. I could not accept the explanations that were given in answer to my sincere questions, and for years I never opened a Bible willingly. My mother insisted on my attendance at Sunday School and church, but the teaching fell on deaf ears.
Some years afterward, when I was a grown woman and had two children, my sister wrote me of a wonderful healing she had had through the study of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. Out of curiosity I went to a Christian Science service in a hall where a small group of people met regularly. When I came out of that hall, I was convinced that I had found the answer to many of my questions, that Christian Science was what I wanted, and that it would show me that the Bible is the Word of God.
I immediately purchased a copy of Science and Health and was so impressed by its great message that I could hardly bear to lay it down. I read it for hours at a time. At the end of three weeks I had been healed of an organic trouble which I had had since our little son was born.
