Gratitude for Christian Science has been part of my consciousness for as long as I can remember. There have been physical healings in our family, where no other method of healing is considered. However, most of all I am grateful for the joy and harmony that have always been mine, and for the fact that the study of Christian Science has acted as a preventive measure more often than it has been needed as a curative method.
Among m experiences I remember especially the overcoming of fear of lightning. I was a counselor at a girls' camp, where we lived in tents spread through a wooded section. During the electrical storms, which were quite severe, it was necessary for me to go from one tent to another, making sure that the children were dry and comfortable. I received a letter from my mother, giving me the following lines from Hymn No. 148 in the Christian Science Hymnal:
The storm may roar without me,
My heart may low be laid;
But God is round about me,
And can I be dismayed?
