My mother became interested in Christian Science...

From the October 1954 issue of The Christian Science Journal

My mother became interested in Christian Science when I was a baby, but I did not make any serious attempt to study it until I was nineteen. For years my study was somewhat desultory, having as its chief purpose the overcoming of physical ailments and the demonstration of harmony in my work as a country schoolteacher. Nevertheless my understanding of Truth was growing, and there were many healings, usually through the work of a Christian Science practitioner.

The first healing, and the most outstanding, was of goiter, for which a doctor had declared that a surgical operation was the only remedy. Later, after I joined The Mother Church and a branch church, the problem of finding more suitable employment and of establishing a home for my mother, my grandmother, and myself was beautifully worked out.

Although I was grateful for these healing experiences, the one which has meant most to me and which has changed my whole outlook on life has come about since I took class instruction in Christian Science. In telling of it now, I have a sincere desire that it may help others.
