Testimonies of Healing

"O clap your hands, all ye people; shout...

From the March 1954 issue of The Christian Science Journal

"O clap your hands, all ye people; shout unto God with the voice of triumph" (Ps. 47:1). How often I have felt as the Psalmist must have when he sang those words so long ago. The blessings experienced in our family have been more than can be numbered here. Among them were the overcoming of lack and the healing of double pneumonia, acute indigestion, tuberculosis, internal hemorrhoids, and shingles.

I should like to tell particularly of a healing of sleeping sickness. When our son was four years old we noticed that he was becoming listless and that he would fall asleep every few hours. Although I worked in Christian Science to the best of my understanding, this condition continued until we were unable to wake him. I called a Christian Science practitioner, who came to our home and lovingly assured us that, even though the senses told us he was sleeping, God was in reality nourishing and protecting him. Her work was continued with much faith and courage as day after 'day the little one slept.

Extreme fear took possession of me one evening, and it seemed that it would be impossible for me to carry on. Turning to the Christian Science Hymnal, I opened it to Hymn No. 365, which includes the words, "As thy days thy strength shall be." In the Glossary of our textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, I found the definition of "day," which is in part (p. 584), "The irradiance of Life; light, the spiritual idea of Truth and Love." Surely, I thought, just in the proportion that this radiance of Life and the idea of Truth and Love unfold to me, so will my strength be. I felt relaxed and rested, and never again during this experience was I afraid or weak.
