Testimonies of Healing

It is difficult to find words with which to...

From the July 1954 issue of The Christian Science Journal

It is difficult to find words with which to express my gratitude for the spiritual unfoldment Christian Science has brought into my life. It came to me when nothing else could have helped, and I had a wonderful awakening to the truth it teaches.

Following an automobile accident in which I sustained a fractured skull, a broken collarbone, and a spinal injury, I remained in a semicoma for twelve days. No hope was held for my life. In my occasional moments of consciousness I asked others to pray for me, and full consciousness gradually returned. After X-ray pictures were made, permission was granted for me to be taken home from the hospital; but no visitors were allowed, and I could not leave my bed for several weeks. As the result of another X ray, the physicians decided that an operation on the spine was necessary. This was most discouraging, for I felt that my husband and our two children needed me at home.

It has been said, "Man's extremity is God's opportunity," and Mrs. Eddy tells us in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 574), "The very circumstance, which your suffering sense deems wrathful and afflictive, Love can make an angel entertained unawares." So it proved in this experience, which caused me to seek and find Truth. The thought kept coming forcefully to me, "We must look for the good in everything and everybody." Later a practitioner said to me, "That was God talking to you."
