Christ Jesus not only brought a message to mankind, but made that message practical by actually liberating men from sin, sickness, and death. The master Christian taught spiritual truths to his earth-weary followers; but the genius of his message, which made its import eternal, was the great fact that he demonstrated its power to heal all manner of disease.
When Mary Baker Eddy founded her Church, she established its light to the denomination of Christian Science on the basis of healing works. She asked the acceptance of her discovery of the divine Principle of the teachings of Christ Jesus only because Christian Science manifests God's healing power. Before Mrs. Eddy arranged for the publication of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," she demonstrated God's ever-present dominion over incarnate evil by healing the sick and comforting the sorrowing.
In this textbook, on page 583, Mrs. Eddy defines "Christ" as follows: "The divine manifestation of God, which comes to the flesh to destroy incarnate error." A dictionary defines "incarnate" in part as "invested with flesh or bodily nature and form; esp., embodied in human form; hence, personified." Thus we see that for an error to be incarnate, it must appear to be invested with flesh, to be embodied.
