Since beginning the study of Christian Science a number of years ago, I have experienced numerous physical healings. Each has been a step toward a fuller understanding of true being. With this fuller understanding my gratitude for our dear Leader, Mrs. Eddy, is ever increasing. The peaceful living and happiness which the study of Christian Science has brought to me is an individualized manifestation of the value of her gift.
Most students of its teachings, I believe, feel especially grateful for their first healing, because it brought convincing proof of the power of Truth over error. Early in my study of Science an alarming skin disease, covering the entire body, presented itself. At that time I was living with friends who were not Christian Scientists and who insisted that I have medical attention. Because of my inability to take a firm stand, I yielded to this suggestion. The difficulty failed to disappear under medical treatment, however, and the most that was offered me was the hope that in several months it might be eliminated.
I now realized the necessity of taking a firm stand in accordance with Mrs. Eddy's statement (Science and Health, p. 167), "Only through radical reliance on Truth can scientific healing power be realized." This realization brought the courage to immediately dispose of the medicine I had been using. With the displacement of fear in my thought, the skin disturbance subsided. From then on my study in Christian Science became more consistent, and my circle of friends grew to contain a number of students of this Science. When a few years later the skin difficulty attempted to present itself again, the help of a practitioner was immediately sought. The condition yielded in less than five days, and it has not again recurred.
