Christian Science is daily proving to a waking world the practical healing power of a true spiritual conception of being. So effective is the Christlike method of viewing individuals, objects, and circumstances from the standpoint of spiritual truth that its practice has been successful in overcoming discords of every name and nature, including so-called incurable diseases.
Sin, sickness, hatred, sorrow—all mortal errors which lack the sanction of divine Spirit—exist only as material misconceptions. It is the mission of Christian Science to teach mankind how to correct such misconceptions through the scientific understanding of divine counterfacts, or Godlike concepts.
It is obviously impossible for anyone to entertain two diametrically opposite concepts at the same time. Such contrary states of mind as good and evil, joy and sorrow, health and sickness, courage and fear, never occupy individual thought simultaneously. "Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet water and bitter?" asked the Apostle James (3:11). "Can the fig tree, my brethren, bear olive berries? either a vine, figs? so can no fountain both yield salt water and fresh." Because this Scriptural statement is true, it is possible for the student of Christian Science to experience improved health by holding in thought the divine concept of health. Just as a comprehension of harmony in music enables the musician to eliminate audible discord, so the perfect spiritual conception of infinite Love, understood, empowers the metaphysician to cast out physical errors, which likewise have their source in false beliefs.
