Never before in the history of the world has there been a greater need for hearers and doers of God's Word than there is today. Words of tyranny and terror are attempting to silence and disarm the voice of Truth, but the Word of God can at all times be heard by those who wait and listen.
When Moses was caring for sheep in a desert land, he heard the voice of God calling him. He removed the sandals from off his feet—a sign of reverence—and prepared to follow God's directions for delivering the children of Israel from Egyptian bondage and cruelty. How profound and promising was the Word of God which they heard from the lips of their great leader soon after they were encamped in the wilderness of Sinai (Ex. 19:5, 6), "If ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant,... ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation." The narrative continues, "And all the people answered together, and said. All that the Lord hath spoken we will do."
Immediately they set themselves to build a temple in which they could worship God. It is inspiring to recall how closely they listened to instructions and how diligently they worked to build a portable tabernacle, or tent. It was so constructed—with all its furnishings, including the ark—that it could be taken apart and put together again to accompany them on their forty years' journey through the wilderness.
