MRS. EDDY'S LEADERSHIP

From the January 1955 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Spiritual leadership characterizes those who, through earnest effort to understand Truth, have gained a foothold in Christ. Moses, Joshua, other Bible characters, and above all, Christ Jesus, possessed the quality of leadership. With the background of Bible history before us, and reviewing Mary Baker Eddy's experience as the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, we can reach no other conclusion than that Mrs. Eddy is the God-inspired Leader of Christian Science.

The question may arise in the minds of some as to how one can be a leader and not be personally on earth. Christ Jesus gave an inkling of how this is done when he said (Matt. 24:35), "Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away."

It was for the protection of Christian Science that Mrs. Eddy desired the right estimate of herself as Leader. She was fully aware of her position and stated it frankly in her work "The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany," as follows (p. 302): "I stand in relation to this century as a Christian Discoverer, Founder, and Leader."
