Testimonies of Healing

The power of the Word as revealed in...

From the January 1955 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The power of the Word as revealed in Christian Science has been proved beyond doubt in my experience. I shall never cease to be grateful for a healing which took place several winters ago. My husband and I had become somewhat lax in our church attendance and had not been alert in keeping our children in Sunday School. Our excuse was that there were duties to relatives and that, since our little town had no Church of Christ, Scientist, the drive to the city in which a church was located was trying. A day came when I found myself in extreme pain, suffering from inflammatory rheumatism. In addition, an alarming heart condition presented itself, and the situation appeared quite hopeless.

However, we had had many wonderful manifestations of the healing power of the Christ, Truth, and a practitioner was nowcalled to work for me. The case did not yield easily or at once, and it was only with persistent work that my hope was revived. During this time, every human need was wonderfully provided through one channel or another. Neither of the children missed a day of school, and where ordinarily there would have been a great deal of expense involved by hiring help to carry on normal activities in the home, loving help was volunteered and gladly accepted. At this point I should like to express gratitude for the radio broadcasts from The Mother Church and for the loving work of The Christian Science Board of Lectureship, two activities that brought me much inspiration.

The basis of the practitioner's work was the mighty forty-sixth Psalm, Hymn No. 99 in the Christian Science Hymnal, and "the scientific statement of being" on page 468 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. One Sunday, following the utilization of these spiritual bulwarks throughout a night of prayer, we tuned in to the Sunday morning broadcast from The Mother Church, where the Scriptural selection was Psalm forty-six. The first hymn used was No. 99 in the Hymnal, which is based on the ninety-first Psalm, and the reading included "the scientific statement of being.'' This marvelous support, which was needed so much at that time, showed the activity of the one Mind.
