THE WAY OUT

From the January 1955 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Revelation is the Word of God communicated through spiritual sense to one spiritually prepared to receive it. Revelation is the bringing to light of that which has always existed in the eternal order of being. It is a discovery of that which has been hidden by material sense, but which comes to view immediately as spiritual sense is exercised. Revelation might be described as seeing the unseen, hearing the unheard, knowing the unknown. Material sense obscures, in belief, the realm of heaven, but spiritual understanding brings heaven clearly into view.

The kingdom of God is a mental, or spiritual, state existing in the true consciousness of every one of us. According to material sense, we seem to be mortals living in an environment of matter. Spiritual sense, however, reveals man as immortal—living, moving, and having his being in the Mind of Christ.

As we become better acquainted with the nature of God as revealed in Christian Science, we find it more natural to see His perfect character expressed in man. At first the perfection of God is seen as transitional human qualities, such as honesty, affection, humanity, hope, and so on. This moral realm is a step out of chaos into the realm of heaven. The spiritual realm awaits our eager, spiritual expectancy. And this realm is revealed through the bright light of spiritual understanding. The moral and spiritual are inseparable. The former is transitional; the latter is permanent. In the spiritual realm, which is the acme of true being, no matter exists; substance is Spirit, and all forms of ignorance, fear, sin, and superstition are unknown. In this realm no finiteness can be found, because Truth is infinite. An unfoldment of ideas forever takes place, and one's interest in life is intensified as this is realized.
