FREEDOM

From the November 1955 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Freedom is not a matter of open spaces or of mere liberty to come and go as one pleases. Freedom is a divine endowment. There are many who seem to be imprisoned by false, finite beliefs because they have not learned what freedom of the Spirit is.

The erroneous testimony of the senses seems to deprive men of their God-given freedom. The belief of a material creation with its limitations and false laws brings in its wake a sense of separation from God and a lack of dominion over sin, sickness, and death. Mortals are more inclined to believe in the power of evil than in the power of good, God, and fear seems to dog every step.

Christian Science has brought to the world the truth which establishes man's God-given freedom and dispels fear. In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy we read (p. 228): "Mortals will some day assert their freedom in the name of Almighty God. Then they will control their own bodies through the understanding of divine Science. Dropping their present beliefs, they will recognize harmony as the spiritual reality and discord as the material unreality."
