"To those leaning on the sustaining infinite, to-day is big with blessings." This statement by our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, is found in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (Pref., p. vii). My gratitude for a realization of the truth of this statement is matched only by my gratitude for Christian Science.
Slightly more than a year before my birth my father was healed through Science of tuberculosis in its last stages. The doctors had given up his case as incurable. I was privileged to be brought up by parents who studied Christian Science and imparted its truths to me from the beginning.
When I was a very small boy, my family and I were visiting relatives. I found an open can of lye and ate about one third of its contents. After my parents stopped me from eating more of the lye, prayerful work was started immediately. When I began to cry and complain, the relatives with whom we were visiting insisted most vehemently that a doctor be called. This was not done, however. The healing work was complete, for the next day I was well, and there were no aftereffects from this incident.
