A testimony of mine appeared in the June, 1935, Journal. Today I am more convinced than ever that Christian Science is indeed the pearl of great price.
I wish to tell how it was clearly revealed to me that God is truly a loving Father. When our daughter was two years old, she found a razor blade. By the time my husband noticed her with it, she had less than half of it in her hand. It appeared that she had bitten into it, but she showed no ill effects. It later developed that she had shared the blade with her five-months-old brother. I surmised this when I found a small piece of it where he had been lying.
The following morning when the baby's regular nap time came he began to cry quite distressfully. As he had never given me any trouble at nap time, I immediately thought of the piece of the razor blade, which I had found on his pillow the day before. I began to pray as best I could, recalling the substance of these words on page 206 of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy: "Does God send sickness, giving the mother her child for the brief space of a few years and then taking it away by death?" I knew He does not, and what courage and faith this thought gave me! I then read some of the weekly Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly, the subject of which happened to be "God the Preserver of Man." Soon the baby fell asleep. At one o'clock, when he awakened, I changed his diaper and found that he had passed a piece of the razor blade, diamond shaped and measuring about three sixteenths of an inch in length with a sharp edge along one side. At six o'clock in the evening I found that he had passed a second piece of the blade, this one being seven eighths of an inch long, narrow, and irregular in shape with a sharp edge along one end. There was no evidence of any internal injury, and no aftereffects were ever seen.
