GET THE FACTS

From the May 1955 issue of The Christian Science Journal

In order to understand and evaluate material facts with maximum efficiency and to render decisions which bless and advance mankind, one needs to understand the completely spiritual nature of being. Mary Baker Eddy confirms this, for she writes in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 492), "For right reasoning-there should be but one fact before the thought, namely, spiritual existence."

Christian Science reveals that God is divine Mind, Life, Truth, Love, infinite Spirit, and that man is His reflection. Hence man is neither sinful, material, nor subject to disease and death. He is God's perfect and complete expression. Science also teaches that matter and evil, being the opposite of Spirit, have only a supposititious existence in human belief. It makes a clear distinction between conclusions based on the reality of Spirit and on the unreality of matter and those human deductions based on belief in both Spirit and matter which comprise human knowledge. It avers that the latter are not really facts, but are summations of human opinion which are neither infallible nor dependable. It shows that human knowledge should be judged by its ability to forward one's genuine progress.

Christian Science recognizes that spiritual existence is the fact of harmonious being; therefore spiritual existence is the inevitable goal of the true aspirations of mankind. But Christian Science also recognizes that spiritual perfection can be achieved only through individual spiritualization of thought in daily living, as exemplified by Jesus. He vanquished sickness, sin, death, and all material obstructions in proof that Spirit not matter, health not sickness, abundance not lack, harmony not discord, Life not death, goodness not sin, are the facts of true being.
