Blessedness is the natural state of man; it is the result of man's oneness, or unity, with God, good; it is holiness reflected from divine Mind. Personal condemnation amounts to a declaration of the existence of evil and a denial of God, good, as One and All-in-all.
Mary Baker Eddy states in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 167), "Our proportionate admission of the claims of good or of evil determines the harmony of our existence,—our health, our longevity, and our Christianity." This statement leaves the question of blessing or cursing, of good or evil, squarely up to the individual. There is comfort, however, in the recognition that one's human lot is not preordered, or that one's experiences are not at the mercy of circumstances or the wishes or decree of others. Another passage in Science and Health further helps us to see that good is evidenced as human thought is corrected. It reads (p. 516), "The substance, Life, intelligence. Truth, and Love, which constitute Deity, are reflected by His creation; and when we subordinate the false testimony of the corporeal senses to the facts of Science, we shall see this true likeness and reflection everywhere."
"The facts of Science," based on the premise of one perfect God and His unvarying, loving control of His spiritual creation, destroy the belief that blessedness and damnation are two opposite conditions to which man is subject. In Science blessedness is seen as the actual state of being, emanating from divine Mind. Calamity and affliction, on the other hand, are but the false testimony of the material senses, which, if accepted, would temporarily hide from view the true substance, life, and intelligence, which man reflects as the image and likeness of God, divine Mind.
