Divine Love lived is the royal way to health, happiness, and success. Knowing this, Christ Jesus brought to the world a scientific and demonstrable system of Christly works which gave substance and life to his beautiful and comforting words. With Jesus, words and works were indissolubly united, and they continued thus for about three hundred years after his ascension. Through the worship of Jesus' personality, false theology lost sight of this union, and Christendom remained in semi-darkness until the advent of Christian Science. This revelation of the Christ, Truth, shows mankind that God is the only cause and creator, and that man, God's idea, is, always has been, and always will be wholly spiritual, complete, and perfect.
In all of her writings Mary Baker Eddy makes it perfectly clear, however, that Christly works must always accompany the letter of Science. On page 113 of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," she writes: "The letter of Science plentifully reaches humanity today, but its spirit comes only in small degrees. The vital part, the heart and soul of Christian Science, is Love. Without this, the letter is but the dead body of Science, —pulseless, cold, inanimate."
Students of this new-old scientific Christianity love to read and to hear the absolute statements of truth regarding God, man, and the universe which their Leader gives to the world. Mrs. Eddy knew that knowledge of and intellectual agreement with these clear spiritual facts were but the first steps in demonstrating her revelation. She admonishes us that these truths must be lived and practiced to be effective in our daily lives. The following experience of a student of Christian Science is a case in point.
