"I AM A CHRISTIAN SCIENTIST"

From the May 1955 issue of The Christian Science Journal

When one makes the statement, "I am a Christian Scientist," he issues to himself the most challenging call in present experience. To demonstrate scientifically the presence and power of the Christ, the divine manifestation of God, is the most revolutionary and at the same time most healing factor in human experience. Mary Baker Eddy tells us what constitutes a Christian Scientist where she writes (The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany, p. 5): "The First Commandment of the Hebrew Decalogue, 'Thou shalt have no other gods before me,' and the Golden Rule are the all-in-all of Christian Science. They are the spiritual idealism and realism which, when realized, constitute a Christian Scientist, heal the sick, reform the sinner, and rob the grave of its victory."

Members of various Christian denominations are distinguished by their different doctrinal beliefs. The genuine Christian Scientist is evidenced by his conviction that God is All-in-all and by his radical reliance on spiritual power to meet every need and solve every problem. The Christian Scientist subscribes, as a member of The Mother Church, to the Tenets, or six main points, which stress adherence to one God and to the Golden Rule. These Tenets may be found on page 497 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy.

The readiness with which one accepts these basic points of Christian Science and makes them a part of his experience frequently determines the quickness and sureness of his healing. The one God whom we worship is eternal Life, as revealed in the Bible. To believe in another life, or another power, is to believe in another god. It is this false belief which seems to make men mortal and subject to disease.
